Seasonal Schools Workshop

Year 1 had a great morning with Martin Maudsley. We spent time looking for signs of spring and exploring our school environment. Martin used his story telling and songs to help us think and learn about spring.
We then made some amazing creatures using clay and natural objects. We thought of interesting ways to describe the creatures.

Autumn 1 - Rumble in the Jungle

During our topic 'Rumble in the Jungle' the children learned lots about jungle animals.  In English they read the story 'Rumble in the Jungle' and labelled the body parts of some of the characters.  They learnt and recited poems about animals and started to investigate alphabetical order.

In Maths they practised counting accurately to 20 and beyond and learnt their number bonds to ten (using ladybird spots to help them).

In PE the children danced like different animals to music from the jungle book.  They were so sensible and safe we were even able to get the apparatus out for our last session!

Autumn 2 - All About Autumn

In November the children enjoyed learning about the season autumn.  They watched videos of firework displays and did lots of writing about what they saw.  They used pastels to draw their own firework displays and went on an walk around the school to look for signs of autumn in our environment.  The children also designed safety posters about firework night and used different artistic effects such as rubbing and collage to create autumn leaves to decorate the role play area.  The children made autumn muffins with Mrs Lyster and enjoyed serving these, and presenting their learning to their parents at their class assembly!
